US President Donald Trump and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron met on Friday, August 4, over a wide range of topics, including Iran, Syria and Iraq.

According to a statement issued by the White House, Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron discussed how to increase their cooperation on the Iraqi and Syrian issues and to counteract what Trump calls “Iran’s detrimental influence”.

In a context where Donald Trump accuses Iran of playing a “destabilizing role” in the region, French President Emmanuel Macron recently renewed the French commitment to the nuclear agreement and confirmed the Iran’s full compliance with the agreement . In addition, the French group Total signed a gas deal with Tehran on Sunday (June 4th), despite pressure from Washington. So, will the French president rally to the anti-Iranian phobia of Trump?
