The great German magazine DER SPIEGEL validates the demonstration and explains with a shock cover (photomontage with Merkel amid Nazi officers on the occupied Acropolis in 1941) how other Europeans see Berlin and its nostalgic dreams of grandeur from the Second Reich ( Bismarck and Wilhelm II) and the Third Reich (Hitler).

HOW DER SPIEGEL EXPLAINS ITS FRONT PAGE?
Der Spiegel journalists have tried to answer the question of why the parallels between the political elites of modern Germany and the Third Reich became possible in the intellectual space of modern Europe. According to the authors (and Luc MICHEL in his GRAND JEU), Berlin claims to an open leadership even a hegemony among the countries of the European Union (EU) by using political and economic influence levers.
A good example is the relationship between Germany and Greece, whose future in the euro zone depends primarily on the Berlin credit policy. And while the Germans demanded the Greeks they pay their bill, the latter present them a historical invoice: Athens recently asked Berlin substantial compensation for damage suffered during the Second World War. It is these Greek claims that have been interpreted by the front page of Der Spiegel. Furthermore, the authors analyze in detail the new leadership of Germany. “The Germans are again regarded as a great power. But they can be considered as a rather weak and not strong hegemon on the continent,” concludes Der Spiegel. Which is obviously less far than Luc MICHEL, who also analyzes the arrival of Berlin and its Bundeswehr in Africa.
