Jeronimo Osa answers Obama: The 36 years of democracy, development and freedom in Equatorial Guinea show that he is wrong

After Barack Obama’s criticism of some African leaders who remain a long time in power, the Secretary of PDGE replied: “Your assessment is wrong. The best example is precisely the 36 years of democracy, development and freedom brought about by H.E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo in Equatorial Guinea. His tenure has meant unparalleled social stability for our country, unprecedented in our history. Unlike other countries, young African democracies need to become established with stable and reliable leaders.”
Jeronimo Osa Osa Ecoro, Secretary General of the ruling Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE), responds to the statements of the President of the United States, Barack Obama, during his visit to the headquarters of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia). In this speech, Obama criticized the fact that some African leaders remained in power for a long time.
Osa Osa responds to this criticism, just at the time when the PDGE, like the rest of Equatorial Guinea, is immersed in the celebrations of the 36th anniversary of the Freedom Coup, which marks the moment the Head of State of Equatorial Guinea, H.E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, rose up against the state of internal chaos that was ravaging the country then. In response, Jeronimo Osa highlights how Equatorial Guinea has gone from being a miserable and unknown country on the map to being one of the most advanced States in Africa, and an example of peace and stability, precisely because of the 36-year rule of President Obiang, who has directed the country into a state of economic growth, democracy and peaceful coexistence.
WHAT ANSWERS THE SG OF THE PDGE TO OBAMA?
“Despite his undoubtedly excellent intentions, the President of the United States lacks knowledge of the true African cause. Barack Obama makes the typical error of searching for Western models and find solutions for people -the African people- who have lived a completely different history and evolution and that, therefore, needs different models and solutions,” said Osa Osa.
And continued: “We must remind the President of the United States that Africans were exploited by the inhabitants of his country, and elsewhere. This stage of history brutally cut off our development, preventing us from evolving like the rest of the world population. He himself, in his own family, can examine the background of such a brutal crime against humanity.”
Recalling that Africa has also suffered colonization of Western States, Osa Osa indicated that African countries are very young democracies and in the process of development, they need their own time: “We have only been living in the Western fashion for a short time, largely due to the abuses that Western peoples exerted on our continent. Therefore, we cannot ask that now, in only fifty years, we live the same, feel the same and be as organized as they are, for example, in the United States. We ask the President of the United States and the rest of the Western world to understand that each country needs its own time and its evolution.”
“The permanence or longevity in office of H.E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has never been because he personally held onto power against popular will, but his election is due to popular vote, and renewed his mandate as a charismatic leader elected by his people,” also said the Secretary General of the PDGE, who also reiterated his wish that the 36 years of President Obiang’s rule last even longer. “His tenure has meant for our country a long and short time simultaneously, which allowed us to live an unparalleled social stability, unprecedented in our history.”
“In these 36 years, the people of Equatorial Guinea have gone from being miserable and anonymous Africans, to being able to exercise that sense of pride and dignity that President Obama spoke of in his speech to the African Union,” said Osa Osa. “We are, therefore, the example that long terms, if they truly direct their people on the right path, may offer a period of establishment, peace and stability to a country that is in full development and reborn as ours was.”
The Secretary General of the PDGE ended by saying that “the thirty-six years of democracy, development and freedom of Equatorial Guinea alone answer Barack Obama in his incorrect assessment.”
