THE INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS OF MONITORING

FOR THESE SUDANESE PRESIDENTIAL AND NATIONAL ELECTIONS

African Union: H.E Chief Olusegum Obasanjo former president of Nigeria lead the African Union Observers mission. Many Other international groups like Arab League, IGAD and civil societies were among the observers.

As General Secretary of the Non-Aligned Students and Youth Organization (NASYO) and EODE Representative for the SADC Region and Mauritius, I was posted at Blue Nile River region which is some 400 kms from Khartoum. I had pursued my works as mostly according per the principles from the manual of monitoring elections of the UN and AU to observe the elections.

I was fully briefed on the full compliance of the Sudanese laws and regulations,

I observed strict impartiality.

See no bribery activities,

Seen no disclosure of any potential conflict of interests,

Seen courteous treatment of election official,

I had carried my clear identification throughout the mission,

Notice non-interference in the electoral process,

I had good collaboration with other International observers.

OBSERVATION OF THE BLUE NILE RIVER REGION

Region that was under my observation: Blue Nile River region. It has 24 seats for the National Assembly. I had one hour’s questions and answers time with the Chairman of the High Election Commissioner of Blue Nile. Blue Nile consists of 145 polling stations. I interact with few candidates from the opposition parties as well as to the ruling party candidates and also with all political parties’ agents outside the polling stations.

I had notice that each voting room had an official with few elections officers and with parties’ agents for the verification of registered voters. I had seen the 7 ballots that each elector has to vote. Had seen the transparent voting boxes properly sealed. I had interacted also with the electors and chief of the villages, tribes and peoples in street about the process of the election to know their feeling and remarks.

However, I notice that among the 16 names of candidates for the Presidential Candidates mostly are not well known. I was further understood that few parties did not participate in the election 2015 as some of them were involved in having subversive approached during previous elections.

 OBSERVATION AND CONCLUSION

After seriously looking and analyzing the above facts, I am fully satisfied that the Presidential and National Election of 2015 held in Sudan, according to my opinion and that of my organizations’ network  went PEACEFULLY, FREE, FAIR and TRANSPARENT.

 Nundkeswarsing BOSSOONDYAL,

(*) General Secretary, Non-Aligned Students and Youth Organization (NASYO) International NGO.

EODE Representative for the SADC Region and Mauritius.
